A Day in the Life
This photo is unique to me because of the high contrast in the picture. My green Hunter rain boots sit inside a dirty and grimy garage where the muddy water reflects a clear, blue sky outside. When I took the picture, I used an ISO of 1600 for the dim lighting and a daylight setting because of the brightness outside. In photoshop, I slightly increased the contrast to highlight the light/dark relationship and the vibrance to emphasize the colors, particularly the blue sky reflected in the water. I also added a calming white border and feathered it to soften the image.
Overall, I am very pleased with this photograph. Even though the green color of the boots is washed out in the darkness, I am drawn to the stark juxtaposition of the dirty shadows and the bright, clear sky.One thing I might have improved was the exposure of the boots. I could have chosen to bring out a little more of their color.

Art is one of the greatest ways to capture the rich beauty around us. I am always amazed by the pleasure a simple painting or photograph can afford as it presents me with a single moment in time, a little slice of the incredible beauty in this journey we call life. Photography is a tool that helps me allow others to see the world through my eyes. In a picture, I can capture things that interest and move me in a way that may influence other’s perceptions as well.
A picture that is thoughtful and well constructed can tell a powerful story and even leave a permanent mark on those who experience it. It helps us as members of the human race come to understand and respect one another. I aim to tell stories through my pictures, to show others windows into new places and new ideas.
